To "develop, promote and foster Athletics in Europe" is the very first object of the Constitution of European Athletics. Our aim is to work together with our Member Federations to make athletics "Your Sport for Life" by bringing people of all ages the excitement of our elite events and the many benefits of participating in our sport and living the athletics lifestyle.
We fulfil this responsibility primarily by raising the public profile and building the popularity of European Athletics through our programme of European Championships and other major events. This creates a strong platform for the Member Federations to attract both the participants and resources required for the sport to flourish at the national and local levels.
Development Programmes
We also deliver targeted programmes to assist Member Federations and others at the national level. The main European Athletics development programmes are:
The European Athletics Education Programme, which includes conferences, seminars and workshops to support the work of European Athletics Member Federation personnel through skills development and sharing examples of best practice.
The European Athletics Innovation Awards, a biennial competition designed encourage research and the sharing of new ideas that will lead to the promotion and development of athletics.
The European Athletics Coaching Summit Series, practice-oriented coaches conferences focusing on a single discipline or event group, staged by independent organisers with support from European Athletics.
The European Athletics Women's Leadership Awards, a biennial competition to recognise the contributions of women leaders in athletics and raise awareness of the issues affecting gender equity in the sport.
The European Athletics Sustainability Project demonstrates leadership and commitment to sustainability by launching a long-term project to raise awareness about environmental and social responsibility within the sport.
These and other activities are planned and monitored by the European Athletics Development Committee , which is supported by European Athletics Head Office staff.
European Athletics also works closely the Development Commission of the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations), the IAAF's Regional Development Centre in Moscow and other partners.
