British pole vaulter Holly Bleasdale made headlines around the world on Saturday when the 2011 European Athletics U23 Championships gold medallist cleared 4.87m at a meeting in Lyon, France.

The leap moved her up to the second place in the world and European indoor lists and propels her into medal contention for this year's big events, including the 2012 European Athletics Championships which will be held in the Finnish capital Helsinki between 27 June and 1 July.

For good measure, she also attempted 5.01m, one centimetre higher than Yelena Isinabayeva's current world indoor record.

In an article in the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph, which can be read here.

Bleasdale talks about the competition in Lyon and her stunning improvement.
