Belarus's Balykina blasts her way to best European 60m of 2012 | 20.01.2012

Belarus sprinter Yulia Balykina improved to a 60m personal best of 7.25, and clocked the fastest European time of the year so far, at the Minsk Winter indoor meeting on Wednesday.

There was also a good result over the barriers for hurdler Maksim Lynsha who won the 60m hurdles in 7.72.

On the other side of Europe, Great Britain's 2010 European Athletics Championships 110m hurdles gold medallist Andy Turner began his 2012 campaign at Crystal Palace in south London on Wednesday, running 7.79 for 60m hurdles (and also 7.82 in his heat)

However, Turner later said via Twitter: "Had to pull out of the South of England champs this weekend as my Achilles has been giving me grief again, an injection tomorrow (Friday) should fix it."

Turner, who also won a 2011 World Championships 110m hurdles bronze medal, is also down to compete in the opening European Athletics Indoor Permit Meeting of 2012, the Aviva International Match in Glasgow on January 28.
