European Athletics launches new RSS Feed service for subscribers and syndication to other websites

The latest addition to the panoply of information available to visitors to www.european-athletics.org, is an RSS feed.

An RSS feed is a service you can subscribe to which will automatically update with the latest content from your chosen website.

Once subscribed to an RSS feed you need take no further action than browsing the latest headlines and deciding whether you would like to visit the website to read more.

What is RSS?
The most common definition for RSS is "Really Simple Syndication". This also describes fairly accurately what RSS actually is.

How do I subscribe?
The first step to subscribing to an RSS feed is to install a news reader.
The following are some popular newsreaders.

Windows
- Newz Crawler, FeedDemon, Awasu, FeedDemon

Mac OS X
- Newsfire, NetNewsWire, Amphetadesk

Web
- Bloglines, My Yahoo!, NewsGator, BlogLines

You can also use a web browser such as Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 to access RSS feeds.

Although it can differ from one newsreader to another the most common method of subscribing to an RSS feed is by pasting or dragging the address of the feed found below into the newsreader

Steps required to subscribe to the www.european-athletics.org RSS feed
In order to use this feed the user has to download a news reader or aggregator – there are many free news readers available for download on the web; for example, Sharpreader available at http://www.sharpreader.com/.

Install this and then simply copy and paste the required URL in the relevant tool and select to Subscribe to the news service. After this the user chooses how often the feed refreshes and an alert flashes if there is new news.

Content syndication
External websites are very welcome to incorporate this feed into their own sites. Most web developers can do this simply, using the XSLT protocol to adapt the layout to their own site’s graphics structure.
