European Athletics has completed its round of evaluation site visits of cities bidding for the 2013 SPAR European Cross Country Championships, with recent meetings held in Antalya, Belgrade and Dudince with the respective organising committees.

The Evaluation Commission, led by European Athletics Vice-President Karel Pilný, visited the Serbian capital of Belgrade and Slovakia’s Dudince last week following a visit to the Turkish city of Antalya.

“We have had good discussions with the potential organisers and city authorities during our recent site visits, which have given us valuable insight into the overall vision of the three places bidding for the 2013 SPAR European Cross Country Championships,” said Vice-President Pilný.

“They now have a chance to improve their bids following our discussions before submitting their final bids just after the European Athletics Convention in October.”

Following receipt of the final bids, the Evaluation Commission will send its report to the European Athletics Council before its members vote on which venue will host the championships at the 3-5 November Council meeting in Helsinki.

The 2011 SPAR European Cross Country Championships will be held in Velenje, Slovenia, in December. The 2012 championships will be held in Budapest.
