Britain's Ennis and Chambers to defend world indoor titles

Multi-events star Jessica Ennis has been named in
the Great Britain and NI squad for the 2012 IAAF
World Indoor Championships in Istanbul. 
Both of Great Britain's 2010 World Indoor Championships gold medallists have confirmed will defend their titles next month after UK Athletics announced on Tuesday that multi-events star Jessica Ennis and sprinter Dwain Chambers will be part of a 39-strong Aviva Great Britain & Northern Ireland team.


The 2012 IAAF World Indoor Championships with be in Istanbul, Turkey, from 9- 11 March.


The 2011 European Athlete of the Year Mo Farah and this winter's pole vault sensation Holly Bleasdale, the 2011 European Athletics U23 Championships gold medallist, will also be on the plane to Turkey for the climax of the 2012 indoor season.

Recently crowned national indoor 60m hurdles champion Andy Pozzi, the 2011 European Athletics Junior Championships 110m hurdles silver medallist, is one of five new internationals making their debut in the British senior team.

New UK indoor long jump record holder Shara Proctor and 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships 60m hurdles silver medallist Tiffany Porter are a couple of the other names who have been selected and will have medal chances in Istanbul

“This is a strong team and one that can realistically challenge for medals and make finals,” said UK Athletics head coach Charles van Commenee.

“There are some good athletes coming through and I am looking forward to seeing how they perform on the senior international stage. There have been some good performances during the indoor season which bodes well for Istanbul and beyond. The indoor season gives useful information about how athletes are progressing,” he added.

Great Britain got four medals - with two victories from Ennis and Chambers – at the last World Indoor Championships two years ago in Doha.
