<h2>European Athletics U23 Championships</h2>
<p>This is a biennial outdoor athletics competition for European athletes in the age group 20-22.</p>
<p>It was introduced in 1997 to provide a transition between U20 - formerly junior - competition and the senior ranks but often also attracts established international competitors.</p>
<p>Held&nbsp; in&nbsp; July and attracting more than 1000 competitors, the&nbsp; four-day&nbsp; event&nbsp; is&nbsp; not&nbsp; confined&nbsp; to&nbsp; the&nbsp; events in the stadium as it can bring the race walking events on the road into the heart of the city.</p>
<p>The most recent edition was held in Tallinn, Estonia in 2021 and the next European Athletics U23 Championships will be in Espoo, Finland between 13-16 July, 2023.</p>

<h2>European Athletics Championships&nbsp;</h2>
<p>As the jewel in the crown of events organised by European Athletics, the biennial European Athletics Championships are the showcase of the very best that the continental branch of the sport has to offer.</p>
<p>The Championships bring together the best European athletes who habitually produce outstanding performances which, in turn, provides a glittering spectacle for both athletics afficianadoes and general sports fans alikes. The Championships takes place in front of packed stadiums and generates huge TV audiences across Europe.</p>
<p>First held in 1934 in the Italian city of Torino, from 2010 the European Athletics Championships have been organised every two years and since 2018 they form part of the quadrennial multi-sport event, the European Championships.</p>
<p>In 2022, the European Athletics Championships will form part of the European Championships Munich 2022 with eight other sports.</p>

European Athletics Championship

<h2>European Athletics Indoor Championships</h2>
<p>The biennial championships are the biggest indoor event organised by European Athletics.</p>
<p>More than the 600 athletes from the 51 European Athletics Member Federations now participate in the three/four-day event.</p>
<p>First held as a championship event in 1970, the competition was held annually until 1990 and then switched to being held every two years, usually during the first weekend in March.</p>
<p>The most recent Championships were held in Torun, Poland in 2021 and the next European Athletics Indoor Championships will be held in Istanbul, Turkey between 2-5 March.</p>

<h2>European Athletics U20 Championships</h2>
<p>This is a biennial outdoor athletics competition for European athletes.</p>
<p>It is one of European Athletics' oldest competitions, first held in 1970 after three editions of the unofficial European Junior Games which started in 1964.</p>
<p>Usually held in the second half of July since 1993, it attracts more than 1000 competitors to the the four-day&nbsp; event.</p>
<p>The most recent edition was held in Tallinn, Estonia in 2021 and the next European Athletics U20 Championships will be in Cluj-Napoca, Romania in the summer of 2023.</p>

<h2>European Athletics U18 Championships</h2>
<p>This is a biennial outdoor athletics competition for European athletes under the age of 18 in the year of competition.</p>
<p>It was created to promote higher-level competition among the more talented members of this age group in Europe and provide a stepping stone to the U20 age group.</p>
<p>The third edition of the championships in Jerusalem, Israel were highlighted by 15-year-old Topi Parviainen from Finland setting a European U18 best of 84.52m in the javelin, Mattia Furlani winning gold medals in both the long jump and high jump and Serbia's Angelina Topic clearing 1.92m in the high jump.</p>
<p>Once again, Great Britain topped the medal table in Jerusalem with eight gold medals, all of which came in women's events. Standout highlights included Mia McIntosh winning the 100m hurdles in a championship record of 13.05 and Faith Akinbileje winning gold in the 200m and helping the Brits to the medley relay title.</p>
<p>The fourth edition of the European Athletics U18 Championships will be held in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia in 2024.</p>

<h2>European Athletics Team Championships</h2>
<p>The&nbsp; world's premier team competition between nations sees joint men's and women's teams against each other to be the best on the continent.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The exciting format of these championships puts emphasis on the country and team as opposed to individual results.</p>
<p>In 2023, the competing teams will be divided into three divisions and all the competitions will take place over the space of six days as part of the third edition of the European Games.</p>

<h2>European Throwing Cup</h2>
<p>The event marks the beginning of the outdoor season for European throwers and Europe's best exponents often compete in the Cup.</p>
<p>Throwing events - shot put, discus, javelin and hammer - have traditionally been European strengths and this annual event gives an early indication of what to expect in the coming season.</p>
<p>As a team competition, competitors are also battling for points to help their nation in the overall standings.</p>
<p>The points earned by athletes are accumulated to determine the final ranking of participant teams.</p>

<h2>SPAR European Cross Country Championships</h2>
<p>The most important cross country event on the European calendar attracts the best distance running talents from across the continent in the U20, U23 and senior categories for both genders with a mixed relay the latest addition to the programme.</p>
<p>It is usually held on the second Sunday of December.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The first edition of the Championships was held in Alnwick, Great Britain in 1994. The most recent edition was held in Fingal-Dublin, Ireland last December while the next SPAR European Cross Country Championships will be in Piemonte-La Mandria, just outside Turin, on 11 December 2022.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>European 10,000m Cup</h2>
<p>The European 10,000m Cup dates from 1997 when it was held under its initial title of the European 10,000m Challenge.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Notable names on the roll-of-honour at the Cup include Spain's Jose Manuel Martinez (2004 and 2009), Great Britain's Mo Farah (2010) and Italy's Daniele Meucci (2016) on the men&rsquo;s side and multiple winners Fernanda Ribeiro from Portugal (1998 and 2003), fellow Portuguese runner Sara Moreira (2011, 2012 and 2017) and Great Britain's Paula Radcliffe (1999 and 2001) among the women.</p>
<p>At the 2022 edition in Pac&eacute;, France Jimmy Gressier won the men's race and led France to another team title while Yasemin Can from Turkey won the women's race.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The 2023 and 2024 editions will also be held in Pac&eacute;.</p>

<h2>European Race Walking Team Championships</h2>
<p>This is an event dedicated to race walking organised on a biennial basis. This event was established in 1996 and was formerly called, until 2021, the European Race Walking Cup.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It now includes a senior men's and women's 20km and 35km while 10km races for men and women are organised in the U20 category.</p>
<p>The team scores are calculated by aggregating the positions of the first three finishers (senior) or two finishers (U20). The team with the lowest aggregate of points will be judged the winner.</p>
<p>The Czech spa town of Podebrady, which is famous for its race walking competitions, staged the last edition in 2021 and will be the host for the next two editions in 2023 and 2025.</p>

<p>The inaugural European Athletics Off-Road Running Championships, an innovative continental championship that combines the disciplines of trail and mountain running, took place in El Paso on the Spanish island of La Palma in the Canary Islands on 1-3 July 2022.</p>
<p>The next edition will be held in La F&eacute;claz, France on 5-7 July 2024.</p>
