Congress and Convention

Congress

The 2023 European Athletics Congress was held in Belgrade, Serbia on 22 April.

This was an Election Congress which saw elections for the positions of President, three Vice Presidents and 13 Council Members who will all serve for four-year terms.

President Dobromir Karamarinov (BUL) was re-elected. The three Vice Presidents elected were Cherry Alexander (GBR), Jean Gracia (FRA) and Karin Grute Movin (SWE) and the details of the rest of the Council can be found here.

The Congress consists of the Council and delegates of the 51 Member Federations (note: Russia and Belarus are currently excluded from participating at any European Athletics events). Each Member Federation in good standing, according to the European Athletics Constitution, has one vote.

The Congress is the General Assembly of the Member Federations and the supreme authority of the European Athletic Association it is also the forum for proposed Constitution amendments and changes, which are then voted upon.

The next European Athletics Congress will be held in Batumi, Georgia on 23 October 2025.

Convention

The 2023 Convention was held at the Vilnius Grand Resort, Vilnius, Lithuania between 19-21 October.

Member Federations, European Athletics staff and Council members, Partners, meeting organisers and delegates from other associated organisations converged on the Lithuanian capital for a series of workshops, networking sessions with panel discussions which addressed various topics of interest related to athletics in Europe.

In addition, there were meetings of regional athletics organisations and specific interest groups as well as social events.

The annual European Athletics Convention is designed to support our Member Federations, offering opportunities for education and networking, as well as socialising, with area or interest group meetings and calendar planning activities also on the programme.

The Convention concluded on the evening of Saturday 21 October with the glittering and spectacular Golden Tracks awards ceremony when the the men’s and women’s European Athlete of the Year and Rising Star for 2023 was announced

The Golden Tracks awards ceremony was also streamed live on the European Athletics YouTube channel.

The 2024 Convention will be held in Skopje, North Macedonia between 22-26 October 2024 while the 2025 Convention will be held in Batumi, Georgia between 21-25 October 2025 and will also include the European Athletics Congress on 23 October.
