From 11-21 August, it's 'Back to the Roofs'. With the European Championships Munich 2022, nine top European sports will return to the Olympiapark in Munich under the legendary tent roof construction that was created for the 1972 Munuch Olympic Games.
The slogan of the multi-sport event originates from this. A first impression, symbolic of the slogan, was shown by the projection in which Malaika Mihambo and gymnast Marcel Nguyen, among others, jumped and tumbled spectacularly above the iconic roof of the Olympiastadion.
On the occasion of the 100 days to go milestone, the Managing Director of Olympiapark München GmbH Marion Schöne was in an optimistic mood.
"With the discontinuation of many Covid regulations, we are finally looking forward to lots of events in the Olympiapark again. We especially hope that the interest in the European Championships will now get another significant boost in the last 100 days,," said Schöne.
"Of course, it was not easy to prepare for such a big event during the pandemic, so we are all the more relieved now that the nine European Championships can take place without any restrictions for the spectators," he added.
The Olympiapark München GmbH expects approximately one million visitors across all the sports facilities, including on the sidelines of the out-of-stadia events in the streets of the German city as well as at the festival The Roofs.

One of the star athletes who attended today’s press conference which was held at the Olympiapark was Germany's reigning European champion Malaika Mihambo who has duly added world and Olympic honours in the long jump to her resume since she won her continental title in Berlin four years ago.
"A European Championships here has a very special meaning for me because the support at home is extraordinary and the atmosphere is even more motivating than elsewhere. The flair of the multi-sport event makes the European Championships even bigger and more spectacular. There is something for everyone - from fan to athlete and it gives everyone the opportunity to get to know and love new sports as well," said Mihambo.
The athletics events at the championships are expected to be centrepiece of the 12 days of stellar sporting activitiy and the European Athletics Championships Munich 2022 will take place between 15-21 August and further details (including the timetable) can be found here.
