  • 11 European champions headline final entries for 1st Division in Silesia

The final entries for the European Athletics Team Championships 1st Division in Silesia from 23-25 June have been published and can be viewed here.

All three divisions will be taking place in conjunction with the third edition of the European Games in Krakow-Malopolska from 20-25 June. The timetable for the six days can be found here.

Poland will be looking for their third successive title on home soil next week and their team is headlined by two of their individual European champions from Munich last year in Pia Skrzyszowska (100m hurdles) and Wojciech Nowicki (hammer).

Skrzyszowska contributed maximum points two years ago in both the 100m and 100m hurdles but she will be focusing on the 100m hurdles individually this year.

Femke Bol won maximum points for the newly-promoted Netherlands two years ago in the 400m in a championship record of 50.37 and the treble European champion will be seeking victory in the same event in the top tier of the championships.

Her nearest rival is likely to be Poland’s Natalia Kaczmarek who won the 400m and 4x400m at the 2021 European Athletics Team Championships before winning silver behind Bol in the 400m in Munich last summer.

European indoor and outdoor champion Miltiadis Tentoglou also helped Greece to promotion with victory in the long jump two years ago with a championship record of 8.38m. A mark in that region is likely to be needed to ensure victory against the likes of Italy’s Mattia Furlani and Swiss decathlete Simon Ehammer who beat Tentoglou in Oslo on Thursday.

In total, 11 individual European champions from Munich will be competing in Silesia. Other European champions in action on the men’s side include Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa (5000m), Finland’s Topi Raitanen (3000m steeplechase), Portugal’s Pedro Pichardo (triple jump) and Germany’s Julian Weber (javelin).

On the women’s side, other European champions to feature on the final entries include Bol’s Dutch teammate Jessica Schilder (shot put), Greece’s Elina Tzengko (javelin) and Finland’s Wilma Murto (pole vault).

Five individual European champions will also be in action in the 2nd and 3rd Divisions from 20-22 June. Yaroslava Mahuchikh (high jump) and Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk (long jump/triple jump) will compete for Ukraine in the 2nd Division along with Croatia’s Filip Mihaljevic (shot put) and Romania’s Bianca Ghelber (hammer).

And Luiza Gega, who won Albania’s first ever European title in the 3000m steeplechase in Munich last summer, will compete for Albania in both the 3000m steeplechase and 5000m in Silesia.

All three divisions of the European Athletics Team Championships will be streamed live through the European Athletics channel on the All-Athletics platforms from 20-25 June and news and information can be found here.
