2017 world 800m champion Pierre Ambroise-Bosse has announced his retirement at the age of 31.

Bosse was hoping for a fitting farewell on home soil at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games but he admits his body won’t allow him to continue.

"I no longer enjoy athletics. There is something unhealthy in this tendon, it's no longer there. The days go by, the Games are coming and at this rate, I will never be there," said Bosse, who hasn't competed since 2022, as quoted by AFP.

Bosse was at the height of his powers at the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London where he won a surprise gold medal in the 800m.

He also won bronze medals in the 800m at the 2012 and 2018 European Athletics Championships and the 31-year-old still holds the French record with 1:42.53 from 2014 which puts him fifth on the European all-time list.

Bosse was also prolific in the age-groups, winning the 800m title at the 2011 European Athletics U20 Championships and 2013 European Athletics U23 Championships.

His career spanned three Olympic Games with his best showing coming in 2016 when he just missed out on a medal in fourth.
