  • After Munich 2022, European Athletics Partner Mondo gets ready for Budapest 2023

With the dust starting to settle after the Munich 2022 European Athletics Championships, for which it was the Official Athletics Equipment Supplier,  European Athletics Partner Mondo has now turned its sights towards next year’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

The nine-day championships will be held in the Hungarian capital’s National Athletics Centre, situated on the Eastern bank of the Danube River towards the south of the city, and marks the event's return to Europe for the first time since the London 2017 World Athletics Championships.

Mondo will provide the track for the stadium, which will house 34,000 athletics fans during the championships before slimming its capacity down to 15,000, and the Italian-based company will soon start installing the latest version of its Mondotrack WS product which has already been used at the last two Olympic Games in Rio and Tokyo.

The installation of approximately 14,000m2 of MONDOTRACK WS product, which converts to over 700 rolls of material, will require an estimated 2400 man-hours.

Mondotrack WS tracks have a top layer that includes virgin materials only, which guarantees the highest level of consistency and control over the biomechanics of the surface. It is made of solid vulcanized rubber and is free of coatings and partially embedded microplastic granules that tend to get loose over time, leading to water contamination and compromised performance qualities.

Powered by MONDO's proprietary Air Cell Technology, MONDOTRACK WS tracks offer athletes the most uniform dynamic response and the most complete control over stride, rhythm, and balance.

Produced with up to 10% of natural rubber, and up to 38% of contaminant-free recycled materials, MONDOTRACK WS tracks meets the strictest certification criteria for the emission of Volatile Organic Compounds, perfectly in line with the World Athletics’ Air Quality project.
