With less than six months to go until the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships, organisers are bringing the indoors outdoors as part of the event’s social programme to engage with the wider Dutch public.
At the Airborne Freedom Run in Arnhem on 15 September, the market square was transformed into a mini indoor athletics stadium, complete with the innovative mobile banked corners.
Young and old enjoyed the sprints, hurdles and relays on the special urban track, where the sloping turns provided a unique speed experience. More than 1000 children felt like real athletes.
The development of the mobile banked bends is the result of a collaboration between Sportbedrijf Arnhem, the Atletiekunie, Urban Tracks and Bordbusters and is part of the social activation plan around the European Athletics Indoor Championships taking pace on 6-9 March 2025.
The track is set to visit other areas of the Netherlands in the lead up to Apeldoorn 2025.
