European Athletics are very pleased to confirm that Banska Bystrica, Slovakia will be the host city of the 2024 European Athletics U18 Championships.
Banska Bystrica was provisionally allocated the fourth edition of this important event at the European Athletics Council meeting last month, subject to the formalities of host city contracts being signed.
Following a detailed presentation recently by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), led by the Slovak Athletic Federation President Peter Korčok, to the Banska Bystrica City Council the project was unanimously supported by the Council members.
The Banska Bystrica City Mayor Jan Nosko then proceeded to sign the appropriate documents which contain legal guarantees for both the LOC and European Athletics.
“The European Athletics Council were very impressed by the initiative and enthusiasm of the Banska Bystrica 2024 Local Organising Committee, and we are looking forward immensely to seeing one of our key age group competitions being staged in Slovakia,” said European Athletics President Dobromir Karamarinov.
“We are very pleased to be able to announce the next edition of the European Athletics U18 Championships on the eve of this year’s competition. This event is a hugely important one in our calendar as it provides both a showcase and high-level competition to the future stars of our sport,” he added.
“We are glad that we have received trust from European Athletics relating to this event. This will be the first time that Slovakia will organize a European championship on the track and it is an exciting prospect. However, we have experience with the organisation of the SPAR European Cross Country Championships, various European Race Walking Teams Championships and the European Throwing Cup as well as this year's European Youth Olympic Festival,” said Slovak Athletic Federation President Peter Korčok.
"Banská Bystrica is ready to host the best young athletes from all over Europe and we are looking forward to welcoming them,“ he added.
The Banska Bystrica 2024 European Athletics Championships will held between 18-21 July 2024.
In addition to the 2022 European Youth Olympic Festival next month, which has athletics as its centrepiece, Banska Bystrica is also the location of the hugely popular annual indoor high jump competition – the Banskobystricka latka – which is a World Athletics Indoor Tour meeting.
The 2022 European Athletics U18 Championships will be held in Jerusalem, Israel between 4-7 July.
