Athletics leaders from across the continent have returned to their home countries after a very productive two days at the European Athletics Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Conference which took place this week in Vouliagmeni, Greece on 13-14 March.
52 representatives from 43 Member Federations - including CEOs, Directors and General Secretaries - participated in the high-level gathering of senior executives.
Strategic roadmap
The meeting brought together senior figures at a key moment with the European Athletics Strategic Roadmap 2024-2027 beginning to come to fruition.
Presentations and discussions over the conference reflected the strategic priorities around competition, digitalisation and innovation and community in the Strategic Roadmap.
This included sessions such as 'Content is King and Data is Gold – Monetising the Digital', 'Performance & Personal Achievement', 'Your Racing Team as your asset, European Running Championships 2025 - You are part of the big picture!', 'Growing the Athletics Community' and 'Our Sport in Values.'
The latter was presented by Celia Mendes, European Athletics Deputy CEO and David Grevemberg from the Centre for Sport and Human Rights.
Grevemberg's presentation focused on how a human rights framework can help sport fulfil its core and organisational values. The Centre has worked with European Athletics to provide recommendations on their human rights policy.
Best ever organised
European Athletics CEO Christian Milz said: “I fully agree with our President Dobromir Karamarinov, the 2024 edition of the CEO Conference was the best ever organised. Participants and speakers are very happy with the discussions, networking and learning that occurred.
“The programme was tailored to make this possible with the right balance of group discussions, top-down presentations and social activities. We are looking forward not only to the next edition in 2026 but to the next time we meet again on and off the track."
