Two-time European cross country champion Fionnuala Britton will lead the Irish team at the Lotto Crosscup of Mol, Belgium.

Britton and her teammates are preparing for the SPAR European Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia, and will have to compete against the best Belgian and Dutch runners.

Britton, now 30, won the European cross country title in 2011 in Velenje, Slovenia, and in 2012 in Budapest.

This year, she also finished third in the 3,000 metres at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Gothenburg.

On the sandy track of Mol, Britton’s principal contenders will be Veerle Dejaeghere, the 12-time winner of the Belgian Lotto Crosscup, and Veerle Van Linden, also of Belgium, who won last week with the team of Daring Club Leuven the Lotto Crosscup Relays in Ghent.

There will be also delegations from the Netherlands, Kenya, Switserland and Germany.
