Tadesse Abraham and Nicole Büchler were named Swiss Athletes of the Year 2016 at the inaugural Swiss Athletics Night in Lucerne.

European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen was present at the gala evening and presented Urs Zenger, coach to long distance runner Tadesse Abraham, with the European Athletics Coaching Award. Hansen was given a Plaque of Recognition from President of the Swiss Athletics Fedeartion, Christoph Seiler.

Tadesse Abraham was for the first time voted Swiss Male Athlete of the Year following his terrific half marathon gold at the European Athletics Championships in Amsterdam.

He also lead the Swiss team to European half marathon gold, as they finished just two seconds ahead of Spain in the Dutch capital.

Angelica Moser won Swiss Youngster of the Year following the 19 year old’s World U20 pole vault gold. She also managed to reach the final at the European Championships in Amsterdam, where she finished seventh, and participated in her first Olympic Games.
