Gathering together for the final time in its four-year mandate, the European Athletics Development Commission met in Budapest, Hungary, from 20-22 March to clear outstanding matters and make recommendations for the future of the European Athletics development programme.

Chaired by European Athletics Vice President Jean Gracia, the Commission received a number of updates, including a report from the Director of the IAAF Development and Member Relations Department, Malek El-Hebil, on IAAF support for development activities in Europe, and a report on the European Athletics Running for All programme, which includes the soon to be launched Road Race Safety and Quality System.

The Commission also advised on how the Head Office staff could link the new Road Race Safety and Quality System with the participation of athletics in the European Week of Sport, which will take place in 34 countries for the first time from 7-13 September 2015.

The meeting concluded with a review of the status of the 123 action points agreed by the Commission since its inception in 2011 and an extensive discussion on the future of the Commission, which led to recommendations that will be forwarded to the new European Athletics Executive Board and Council.

The Development Commission’s role is to advise the Executive Board and Council on matters related to the development of the sport.

A new Commission will be appointed by the Council after the European Athletics Congress and elections on 11 April.
