With 10 days to go, final entries for the European Race Walking Team Championships in Podebrady on 21 May have been finalised and are available to view.
The final entries are headed by the three gold medallists from the race walking disciplines at the Munich 2022 European Athletics Championships.
Greece’s Antigoni Ntrismpioti, who swept the 20km and 35km race walk titles in Munich last summer, will be concentrating on the shorter of the two distances in Podebrady next weekend.
By contrast, the men’s European 20km race walk champion Alvaro Martin from Spain steps up to contest the 35km in Podebrady where he joins forces with Miguel Angel Lopez, the winner of the inaugural 35km race walk at the 2022 European Athletics Championships.
Other standout names on the entry-list include Italy’s two Olympic champions from Tokyo 2020 in Massimo Stano and Antonella Palmisano. Stano followed up his victory in the 20km race walk with gold in the 35km race walk at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
By contrast, Palmisano is on the comeback trail from injury and illness and the European Race Walking Team Championships in Podebrady represents her first major competition since winning gold in Tokyo 2020. Can she win individual gold for a third time in Podebrady?
Likewise, Sweden’s Perseus Karlstrom will be challenging for a record third successive gold medal in the men’s 20km race walk. Now 33, Karlstrom leads the entry-list by more than one minute with a season’s best of 1:19:27.
