European Athletics is greatly saddened to learn the death of Hungarian long and triple jumper Tibor Ordina at the age of just 45.

Ordina lost his long battle with illness on Tuesday.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this sad time.

During the 1990s, Ordina was one of the country’s most consistent field eventers, winning a series of national titles and regularly representing Hungary at the major championships.

He was national long jump champion in 1993, 1995, 1996 and 1998 and won the national indoor title in 1993, 1994, 1997 and 1999.

His ability at triple jumping also brought him national honours indoors with victories in 1996 - the year he competed at the Olympic Games in Atlanta - 1997 and 1999.

He was 11th in the long jump final at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Paris in 1994 and back in the French capital three years later, he showed his versatility by finishing eighth in the triple jump final at the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

Ordina had long jump personal bests of 7.92m outdoors and 7.76m indoors and in the triple jump, 16.38m outdoors and 16.96m indoors.
