Germany’s Richard Ringer and Israel’s Lonah Chemtai Salpeter will defend their individual titles at the European 10,000m Cup in London on Saturday 6 July.

This year’s final entries feature 134 competing athletes - 69 men and 65 women - representing 28 nations. The final entries can be found here.

The annual event will be held in conjunction once again with the Night of the 10,000m PBs at the Parliament Hill Athletics Track where it shall remain until 2020.

Last year’s programme concluded with a high quality men’s race which saw the top seven finishers - including three Brits - break the 28 minute-barrier for the distance. The top three from that race will be back in action next weekend.

Ringer outsprinted France’s soon-to-be European champion Morhad Amdouni for the individual title twelve months ago - 27:36.52 to 27:36.80 - with Italy’s Yemaneberhan Crippa third in 27:44.21, breaking Francesco Panetta’s long-standing national U23 record in the process.

Norway's former European marathon record-holder Sondre Nordstad Moen returns to track action.

Fresh from some outstanding performances on the roads including a sub-2:20 clocking to win the Prague Marathon, Chemtai Salpeter will be looking to secure back-to-back individual titles in the women’s race.

Chemtai Salpeter won twelve months ago in a national record and a European-leading time of 31:33.03 before winning the European title over the same distance in Berlin.

Assuming she has recovered sufficiently from her exertions in Prague where she moved to third on the European all-time marathon list, Chemtai Salpeter is the logical favourite but Great Britain’s Eilish McColgan - who has already set PBs at 1500m (4:00.97) and 5000m (14:47.94) this summer - looks in form to pose a staunch challenge.

Other familiar entrants in the women’s race include Portuguese veterans Sara Moreira, Jessica Augusto and Ana Dulce Felix and Switzerland’s European 3000m steeplechase silver medallist Fabienne Schlumpf who makes her debut at the distance.

The European 10,000m Cup first took place in 1997 under its initial alias of the European 10,000m Challenge. Past champions have included Olympic champions Fernanda Ribeiro, Dieter Baumann and Mo Farah and world marathon record-holder Paula Radcliffe.
