Armand Duplantis’ dream season continues as he broke his world record for the third time this outdoor season and for the tenth title in total with a 6.26m clearance in the Silesia Diamond League on Sunday (25) afternoon.
Duplantis only took three vaults prior to raising the bar to a world record height, easing over 5.62m, 5.92m and 6.00m on his first attempts to line up an attempt on his recently set world record of 6.25m from the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
After stalling on his first attempt, Duplantis added further lustre to an already vintage edition of the Silesia Diamond League in the Slaski Stadium - the host venue for the 2021 and 2023 European Athletics Team Championships - by closing the afternoon’s programme with the second world record of the evening.
Less than two hours after Jakob Ingebrigtsen smashed the world 3000m record, Duplantis waited patiently on the runway for the wind to recede before propelling himself over 6.26m on his second attempt to rewrite the record books for the tenth time.
"My first world record also came in Poland, indoors in Torun, so I have great memories from here. The track here is wonderful, the conditions today were perfect, everything just came together to allow me to do this. I know a lot of people came here to see me jump, so I wanted to put in a good showing for them," said Duplantis.
And Duplantis was part of a historic competition which saw three vaulters break the 6.00m-barrier for the first time in the same competition.
Former two-time world champion Sam Kendricks finished second on countback at 6.00m, just ahead of Greece’s Olympic bronze medallist Emmanouil Karalis who became the newest member of the six metre-club with a second-time clearance at this rarefied height.
