European Athletics has awarded the 2014 European Mountain Running Championships to the city of Gap in France.

The European Athletics Executive Board approved the decision during its meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, on 23-24 April 2013.

The competition will take place on 12 July 2014.

In the event, four athletes are allowed to compete for each team. The positions of the three best athletes from the same country are added together to create a total score for that country in the team event.

Last year it was Italy who triumphed in the men’s and women’s senior competition, with Türkiye and and Russia winning the men’s and women’s junior events.

Naturally medals are also awarded in the individual competition.

In 2013, Italian Bernard Dematteis put an end to Ahmet Arslan’s dominance. The Turk had won the last six consecutive championships.
