Germany has named its team for the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships from 7-12 June.

The Germans topped the medal table in Munich 2022 and all five of their individual gold medallists - Gina Luckenkemper (100m), Konstanze Klosterhalfen (5000m), Richard Ringer (marathon), Julian Weber (javelin), Niklas Kaul (decathlon) - will be defending their titles next month.

Klosterhalfen has entered both the 5000m and 10,000m while Ringer will contest the half marathon which replaces the marathon in Olympic-year editions of the European Athletics Championships.

Olympic long jump champion Malaika Mihambo will be looking to regain the title she won in Berlin 2018 and world indoor silver medallist Yemisi Ogunleye begins as one of the prospective favourites for the shot put.

Another familiar name on the German team is Gesa Felicitas Krause who won the 3000m steeplechase title at the 2016 and 2018 European Athletics Championships. This will be her first major competition since returning from maternity leave.

By contrast, 19-year-old Max Dehning makes his debut in a major senior event in the men's javelin. He holds the world lead with 90.20m, a European U23 record, which was set at the start of the season in Halle.

Germany won seven gold medals in total at the Munich 2022 European Athletics Championships with their other two titles coming in the women's marathon team race and the women's 4x100m relay.
