Athletics is back! After a busy month of national and international competitions, we have gone through the results and performances and selected our short-lists for the men’s and women’s Athlete of the Month social media vote.
Four male and four female athletes have been selected based purely on their performances achieved in the previous month. No athlete who has served a doping ban of two years or longer is eligible to be nominated for the award.
The European Athlete of the Month initiative was launched in January 2007 and is designed to recognise outstanding performances set by European athletes as well as giving fans their say as well.
Voting closes at 12:00pm CET on Friday 4 September and the winners will be announced shortly afterwards based on the combined results across voting on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Last month’s winners were Hungary’s Bence Halasz and Slovenia’s Marusa Mismas-Zrimsek. Halasz had three competitions over the 78 metre-line in the hammer and Mismas-Zrimsek moved to second on the world all-time 2000m steeplechase list with a solo 5:56.29 performance in Ljubljana.
