  • Getting to know Amy Hunt, the world's fastest U18 200m runner

Amy Hunt is one of the most in-demand athletes at the Boras 2019 European Athletics U20 Championships after a record-breaking run in an event she wasn’t even planning to contest at these championships.

Hunt travelled to the Bauhaus Gala in Mannheim at the end of June primarily to compete in the 4x100m relay with her British teammates. They came away with two fast times but thrown into the bargain the following day was a 22.42 clocking in the 200m which eclipsed Candace Hill’s world U18 best and broke Dina Asher-Smith’s British U20 record.

With a lifetime best of 11.31, Hunt would have still been the favourite in the 100m but this record-breaking run on 30 June prompted the 17-year-old to switch individual events in Boras.

Ahead of the European U20 Championships, we caught up with Amy to find out how life has changed for her since running 22.42 in the 200m, what she credits for her breakthrough performance, her expectations in Boras and combining her studies with her athletics.
