Retired Swedish high jumper Emma Green has been named as an event ambassador for the 2019 European Athletics U20 Championships in Boras, Sweden from 18-21 July.

Green, who retired from competitive athletics in 2017, won a silver medal at the European Championships in Barcelona 2010 and bronze at the IAAF World Championships in Helsinki 2005.

“I’m passionate about athletics and I want to contribute to the sport that has given me so much over the years. The excitement, joy and cohesion you experience during international championships as a youth is both amazing and very formative for the continued sports career.

'The core values of the event (sustainability, design and close connections) are values I support and was one of the reasons I assumed the mission as ambassador,” said Green.

Green also has a long-standing affiliation with the host city and stadium. At 20, Green cleared a lifetime best of 1.95m (she retired with a PB of 2.01m from the 2010 European Championships) in Boras to seal her place on the Swedish team for the World Championships in Helsinki.

“The city of Boras also has a special place in my heart. The Ryavallen Athletics Stadium which will gather young people from all over Europe is the very same arena where I qualified for the World Championships in Helsinki back in 2005,” she said.

In her ambassadorial role, Green will work on marketing and promotional activities, give talks about the event to local students in Boras and participate in activities with event partners. She will also attend the championships next July.
