Poland’s Michal Haratyk broke his Polish shot put record in Warsaw on Sunday (28) with 22.32m which he followed up with a second throw in excess of the 22-metre line.
The European champion produced six valid throws, beginning with 20.55m and 21.23m before smashing his national record in the third round with 22.32m followed by 22.12m in the fourth round which were both in excess of his previous mark of 22.08m from Ostrava last year.
Haratyk concluded his series with 21.22m in the fifth round and 21.60m in the sixth round to beat his long-time domestic rival Konrad Bukowiecki by more than one metre (21.24m) with Czech Republic’s Tomas Stanek third with 21.21m.
Haratyk moves to fifth on the European outdoor all-time list behind Ulf Timmermann (23.06m), Alessandro Andrei (22.91m), Werner Gunthor (22.75m) and Udo Beyer (22.64m). Haratyk’s best throw was also the further by a European thrower since 1988.
European champion Paulina Guba won the women’s shot put with a season’s best of 18.65m and world silver medallist Piotr Lisek cleared 5.61m to win the pole vault before three attempts at 5.80m.
