Hosts Netherlands have selected a team of 46 athletes for the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships from 6-9 March.
The team features four-time European indoor champion and two-time European Athlete of the Year Femke Bol although her focus in Apeldoorn will be solely on the women’s 4x400m and mixed 4x400m.
With Bol opting not to defend her 400m title, Lieke Klaver will be looking to upgrade the silver medals she won behind Bol individually at the European Athletics Indoor Championships in Istanbul two years ago and at last year’s World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
Two-time European outdoor champion Jessica Schilder, who has surpassed the 20 metre-line three times this year, will be also looking to add the indoor version to her list of accolades in the shot put while Nadine Visser will be seeking a third title in the 60m hurdles.
Niels Laros will be making his debut at the European Athletics Indoor Championships and the Olympic 1500m sixth-placer is due to face three-time champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen in the 3000m.
Still only 19, Laros took an excellent victory over 3000m in Lievin earlier this month, setting an outright Dutch record of 7:29.49.
Douwe Amels will also be defending his title in the high jump two years after clearing 2.31m for gold in Istanbul.
“With 46 participants, we have managed to put together a large and diverse team where many disciplines will be contested for finals spots and medals. Our 4x400m teams are in great shape, and we are delighted with the addition of the mixed relay, where we aim to uphold our honour.
“Almost the entire selected team has experience at the highest level, which raises expectations. But primarily, everyone is incredibly motivated to shine in orange for a full Omnisport, with family and friends in the stands!" said Vincent Kortbeek, technical director at the Dutch Athletics Federation.
