Moldova settled for the third spot with 455.5 points, losing out on an opportunity to move to the 2nd league. The top two finishers in Banska Bystrica were promoted to the 2nd league for the next year’s edition of the European Athletics Team Championships.
Iceland moved up a spot from their Saturday’s standing to finish fourth with 430.5. Luxembourg finished fifth with 396.5 points.
Slovakian sprinters Roman Turcani 21.12 (+0.9) and Lenka Krsakova 24.03 (0.0) in the 200m proved too strong for their competitors as both fetched full marks for the hosts. The women’s 4x400m relay team proved equally tough for opponents winning the race in 3:38.95. Top hammer thrower Martina Hrasnova claimed a narrow win over Moldova’s Zalina Marghieva 71.49 to 71.36, while Jana Veldakova won the long jump for the host nation after bounding out to an impressive 6.41m (-0.8).
Icelandic prodigy Anita Hinriksdottir registered another national junior mark winning the 1500m in 4:16.51, a day after setting a national record 2:01.17 in the 800m on Saturday.
Multi-eventer Laura Ikauniece delighted the home crowd winning the 100m hurdles in 13.63 (+0.9).
