Italy’s Olympic and European 100m champion Marcell Jacobs has returned to his home country, where he hopes to defend his title at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships.
Jacobs is preparing in the Eternal City, after opening his season Jacksonville, USA and last weekend’s World Athletics Relays in Nassau, Bahamas.
He trained at the mesmerising Stadio dei Marmi in Rome on Tuesday (14) morning, just four days ahead of competing at the Sprint Festival in the same historic arena on Saturday (18). The Stadio dei Marmi will also be the warm-up track of the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships. Jacobs (men’s 100m).
Golden generation of Italians
Yemaneberhan Crippa (men’s 10,000m) and Gianmarco Tamberi (men’s high jump) are three Italians who will be looking to defend the titles won at the Munich 2022 European Athletics Championships.
His 100m campaign is scheduled to get underway on the first evening session of the European Athletics Championships, on Friday 7 June. The semi-finals and finals will take place on the evening sessions of Saturday 8 June.
He is also likely to play a key role in a mighty Italian 4x100m quartet, including European 200m bronze medallist Filippo Tortu, a team that won Olympic gold and World silver in 2021 and 2023 respectively.
The men’s 4x100m heats are set for Tuesday 11 June, while the four relays finals are scheduled for the last evening of competition, on Wednesday 12 June.
