Reigning European indoor champion Mujinga Kambundji is rounding into form at just the right time with the Apeldoorn 2025 European Athletics Indoor Championships less than a fortnight away.

Kambundji was in excellent form at the Swiss Indoor Championships in St. Gallen, winning a high quality 60m final in a European leading time of 7.03 - the joint third fastest time of her career and just 0.01 shy of the world lead.

Kambundji won ahead of 20-year-old Emma Van Camp who set a lifetime best of 7.18 with another Swiss relay regular Geraldine Frey third in 7.20.

Just one month after celebrating her 17th birthday, Xenia Buri finished a brilliant fifth in a Swiss U18 record of 7.21 while heptathlete Annik Kalin was seventh in 7.29 having set a lifetime best of 7.27 in the semifinals.

Kalin, who won heptathlon bronze at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, also won the long jump title with a third round jump of 6.68m. She is expected to take part in the 60m hurdles tomorrow.

Fellow combined events specialist Simon Ehammer was also in excellent form across events, winning the men’s long jump title with 8.10m and clocking 6.76 in the 60m heats, just 0.04 shy of his lifetime best.

7.76 for Bapte in the 60m hurdles in Miramas

Laeticia Bapte continued her breakthrough indoor campaign with a pair of super-fast times in the 60m hurdles at the French Indoor Championships in Miramas on Saturday (22).

Bapte won her semifinal in a European lead and lifetime best of 7.76 - just 0.01 shy of the world lead and 0.03 shy of Cyrena Samba-Mayela’s national record - before almost replicating this time just over an hour later in the final, winning in 7.78.

“When I saw the time, I was shocked. I didn't think I'd run in 7.76 in these conditions. There was a bit of emotion, but I'm starting to get used to having to stay focused on the final,” said Bapte, who admitted she has been ill in the build-up to the French Indoor Championships.

Bapte is planning to compete in both the European Athletics Indoor Championships and the World Athletics Indoor Championships in March.
