The second world best of the European Athletics U18 Championships came in the hammer as Ukraine's Myhaylo Kokhan surpassed the mark of 87.16m set by his idol Bence Halasz from Hungary in 2014.
Kokhan produced the most dominant of performances and not only did he produce the five longest throws of the final, all five of his valid throws were in excess of his championship record of 82.42m which he set in qualifying.
After throwing 86.60m in the second round, Kokhan improved to 87.00m in the third round to come within touching distance of Halazs' mark. With his final throw, Kokhan went over Halazs' world U18 best with 87.82m.
'I am over the moon!' said Kokhan. 'I have worked so hard for this, and I deserved it. It is an incredible feeling and a wonderful achievement to break the world record. I have been thinking about winning the whole day.'

For the Ukrainian, the celebrations might have to be put on ice for the time being. He will compete at the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland next week and he is also aiming for the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
The final largely went to form with Bulgaria's Valentin Andreev winning silver with 81.41m. Poland's 15-year-old Tomasz Ratajczyk won the bronze medal with a personal best 76.01m.
Malikova breaks championship record in the 400m
Czech Republic's Barbora Malikova also added the European U18 title to her world U18 title with an assured performance in the 400m final.
Malikova, 16, would have been a title contender for the 800m title after a recent solo 2:03.51 clocking at the Czech U18 Championships but she opted to contest the one-lap event, setting a championship record of 52.66 in the process.
'I am extremely happy and tired at the same time. It is exhausting to run 400 metres three times in three days, especially with this weather,' said Malikova.

Malikova was second on the European U18 lists behind Marie Scheppen but the Czech prevailed ahead of the German who by no means underperformed, improving her PB from 53.37 to 52.82 - the third fastest time by a German athlete in 2018.
There was also a championship record in the boys 400m final with Italy's Lorenzo Benati edging out Great Britain's Ethan Brown, 46.85 to 46.87.

There was a French one-two in the 2000m steeplechase but not in the anticipated order as Lena Lebrun defeated European U18 leader Claire Palou, 6:35.41 to 6:39.20. This was France's first gold medal of the championships.
In the javelin, Poland's Marek Mucha extended the championship record twice, throwing 79.00m in the third round and then 80.01m with the last throw of the competition and the gold medal assured, while Lizaveta Dorts made it a double for Belarus shot putters, fulfilling her role as favourite and winning the girls title with 17.34m in the fifth round to displace Moldova's Nina Capatina whose best was her opener of 17.27m.
