When Poland's Marcin Lewandowski takes his place on the start line at the Copernicus Cup in Torun on Friday 10 February, his mind will be on more than just winning an 800m race.

Lewandowski, 29, might be the defending European indoor champion but this time his thoughts are on how his appearance money will aid a baby in need.

He has heard the story of 14-month old Zuzi, whose left side of her heart has underdeveloped. After her operation in Poland was delayed, her parents are trying for treatment in Germany. They need the funds and Lewandowski is ready to donate, follow the link to make your own DONATION.

Lewandowski said: “I will run in Torun for her. I do not know how much money it will be exactly but I will pass it on to help this little girl.”

In an interview with Eurosport.onetl.pl, he added: “I hope other athletes and members of the sports industry such as the fans will join in on the cause. All contributions big or small will be greatly appreciated by Zuzi and her family.”

The competition takes place at the Torun Arena and for Lewandowski, a night that he will long remember wherever he finishes in the race.
