From Juha Vaatainen’s blazing sprint finish in the 10,000m in Helsinki 1971 to Karsten Warholm equalling the long-standing European indoor 400m record in Glasgow 2019, European Athletics remembered some of the greatest moments of the last five decades as part of the ‘50 Golden Moments’ series to celebrate 50 years of European Athletics.

The series which was launched across social media and digital platforms in mid-May and looked back at 50 great moments over the past 50 years. All 50 Golden Moments were selected exclusively from major European events starting from the Helsinki 1971 European Athletics Championships, the first event organised under the auspices of the newly-created European Athletic Association (EAA).

The series began with Armand Duplantis’ record-breaking exploits in the pole vault at the Berlin 2018 European Athletics Championships and concluded with Sandra Perkovic’s historic five successive gold medals in the discus at the European Athletics Championships followed by a compilation video which looked back on all 50 Golden Moments.

The series elicited a huge response from fans with the videos accruing more than 21 million views and a watch time in excess of 6.5 million minutes across all platforms.
