World and European 3000m steeplechase finalist Marusa Mismas-Zrimsek from Slovenia moved to second on the world all-time list for the rarely-run 2000m steeplechase with a sub six-minute clocking in Ljubljana on Thursday (18) evening.
Mismas-Zrimsek stopped the clock at 5:56.28 to become only the third female steeplechaser in history to eclipse the six minute-barrier outdoors in the 2000m steeplechase. The world best stands to Germany’s Gesa Felicitas Krause at 5:52.80, a mark the Slovenian was looking to eclipse last night.
“I set a very high goal, I wanted to improve the world record, so it was not difficult for me to run on my own without competition. I was full of adrenaline before the race and I felt good. I ran well, I was also on track to reach the goal, but in the end it didn't work out,' said Mismas-Zrimsek who is looking to challenge the record again later in the season.
Mismas-Zrimsek has run substantially faster for the distance this season already. The 25-year-old clocked 5:47.79 indoors for the 2000m steeplechase - minus the water-jump - in Lievin in February.
Elsewhere Tina Sutej, who has already improved the Slovenian record to 4.75m this year, cleared 4.50m in the pole vault and Mismas-Zrimsek’s training partner Klara Lukan won the mile in a national U23 record of 4:40.02.
