Owen Ansah became the first German sprinter in history to break the 10 second-barrier in the 100m with a landmark victory at the German Championships in Braunschweig on Saturday (29) afternoon.
Ansah broke new ground for German sprinting with a sparkling 9.99 clocking to improve Julian Reus’ previous national record which had stood since 2016 by 0.02. Joshua Hartmann was second in an equal lifetime best of 10.06.
"It had to happen at some point. Today it happened and I'm super happy that I'm first. But it hasn't sunk in yet. I have to sit down and see the time in black and white. I felt great, and I love blue tracks like this one," said Ansah as quoted by Leichtathletik.de.
It was a good day for Ansah’s coach Sebastian Bayer, the European indoor long jump record-holder with 8.71m. He also coaches Ricarda Lobe who won the 100m hurdles title in a lifetime best of 12.89.
Other highlights from the second day of the German Championships included victories for 2022 European champions Gina Luckenkemper in the 100m with 11.04 and Julian Weber in the javelin with 86.63m.
