  • New Youth Coach Webinar Series Launches

European Athletics has collaborated with some of the most respected names in the sport to produce a ‘must-see’ series of webinars, for all coaches of young, developing athletes. The Youth Coach Webinar series is being released this week (25-29) via the E-Learning platform.

There are very specific and diverse challenges when working with pre-teens and teens, and these are addressed - with practical solutions and plenty of insight and inspiration for new approaches. There are five webinars, each looking at a different aspect of coaching. Whether your training group is community participation, or young elite performers, there are valuable insights for all.

The webinars and tutors are as follows:

  • Practical Ideas for Coaching the Young Developing Athlete
Scott Grace, England Athletics National Technical Lead for Youth Development.
  • Mental Health in Young Athletes
Holly Bradshaw, Olympic pole vault bronze medallist, Great Britain
  • A strong athletic foundation - developing the talented athlete for the future
Robbert-Jan Jansen, Dutch Athletics Federation Olympic coach
  • Talk to win: Effective communication with teen athletes
Katrin Heyers, Psychologist and Multi Events coach, Dusseldorf
  • Youth Strength Training Considerations For The Developing Athlete
Adam Crook, Scottish Institute of Sport

Each of the webinars is hosted by award-winning British sports journalist Rhona McLeod. Rhona is a UK Athletics level 2 coach, a former hurdler and long jumper, and mother to two daughters who are happily still loving their athletics at U23 level.

The total running time of each webinar is 60 minutes, which includes a coach presentation, followed by questions from Rhona to conclude the session. This age group has the highest drop-out rate in athletics. It is also the age when good practice is established, and a happy and positive experience can lead to a long and fulfilling life in the sport.
