Norway take the team title in Ribeira Brava

Norway were crowned champions in Ribeira Brava, Portugal, on Sunday and their decathlete Lars Vikan Rise led the way by winning the individual event as Croatia's Lucija Cvitanovic won the heptathlon with a national record of 5547.

While not all the countries had enough athletes to produce three results each for the team event, Norway were too strong for Portugal. Both teams were promoted to the 1st League for the 2014 event after finishing first and second respectively in Ribeira Brava. 

They won by 1,678 points as their men had three of the first four places in the decathlon.

Portugal's Tiago Marto did finish second in the individual event with 7603 followed by Norwegian duo Martin Roe, with 7476, and Hans Olav Uldal with 7369.

And it was the men's high scoring that played the main part in the team finishing first.

In the heptathlon, Cvitanovic beat Denmark's Tine Bach Ejlersen, who was second with 5528, and Iceland's Sveinborg Zophoniasdottir, third with 5479.

Norway's leading trio of women were Lene Secher Myrmel, eighth with 5314, Frida Thorsas, ninth with 5233, and Martine Bye, 15th with 4915.
