European Athletics President Svein Arne Hansen visited his 51st and final European Athletics Member Federation this weekend, fulfilling one of the election pledges he made in 2015.

Speaking at the European Athletics Convention in Lausanne, Switzerland in October, Hansen reminded the delegates of this promise and why he was so keen to visit each and every Member Federation.

“Those of you who were in Bled, Slovenia, at the Congress where I was elected in 2015 will remember I promised to visit each of our 51 Member Federations at some time during my presidency. The aim was so that I could hear your needs and ideas and, of course, try to help where I could,” he said.

Last but by no means least on his tour was Luxembourg and Hansen was invited as a special guest to the CMCM Indoor Meeting in Kirchberg on Saturday (2).

“Luxembourg might be one of our smallest Member Federations but I am impressed by how they are developing athletics in the country,” said Hansen. “I can say the CMCM Indoor Meeting was organised to a very high level and any athlete will tell you how important it is to have good quality competitions at home.”

Hansen also held meetings with Luxembourg Athletics Federation President Stephanie Empain and the country’s Sports Minister Dan Kersch, discussing how they can further promote and develop athletics at a grassroots and elite level in the Grand Duchy.
