UK Athletics (UKA) has announced the team selected to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships on 7-12 June 2024.
The strong team includes World heptathlon champion Katarina Johnson-Thompson, reigning European champions Keely Hodgkinson (women’s 800m), Matthew Hudson-Smith (men’s 400m), World bronze medallist Zharnel Hughes (men’s 100m), four-time European gold medallist Dina Asher-Smith (women’s 100m) and recently crowned world indoor champion Molly Caudery (women's pole vault).
It also includes a returning Eilish McColgan in the women’s 10,000m. The three-time European medallist has missed a year of track action due to injury.
It also includes in-form sprinter Jeremiah Azu, who blasted to 9.97 (+1.4m/s) personal best in Leverkusen on Saturday (25) and Daryll Neita, who opened her outdoor season by winning Diamond League races in Suzhou, China and Doha, Qatar over 200m (22.62, +0.2m/s) and 100m (10.98, +2.0m/s) respectively.
Both athletes won bronze medals in the 100m at the 2022 European Athletics Championships in Munich.
Head Coach Paula Dunn said: “I am really pleased with the team we have announced today that will compete in the European Athletics Championships.
“It is incredibly strong with a high number of athletes feeling that Rome will form an important part of their preparations for Paris."
