European Athletics has outlined the qualifying standard for the European Cup 10000m that will be held in Bilbao, Spain, on 3 June.

Each Member Federation can enter one team each in the men's and women's categories and a maximum of six athletes can be registered, with the scores of only three of them counted in the final rankings.

For qualifying, a time which is at least equal to the hundredth best in the European best lists of 5000m, 10000m, 3000m steeplechase, 10km, 20km, Half Marathon and Marathon of the three years preceding the event will be considered.

The time should have been achieved between the 1st of January two years pre-ceding the year of the competition and the closing date for the final entries.

European Athletics has also made provisions for individual entry. According to the rules, a Member Federation which has no athletes who have achieved the entry standards may enter one athlete in each event, even if he/she has not fulfilled the entry standards.

The first three placed athletes (men & women) of the two editions of the European Cup 10000m (2011 and 2012) preceding the 2012 European Athletics Championships in Helsinki will automatically become eligible to compete in Finnish capital.
