A whole host of recent major medal winners feature on Spain’s team for the European Athletics Team Championships in Silesia from 20-25 June.

The European Athletics Team Championships is part of the third edition of the European Games. All three divisions are part of the multi-sport event with the 1st Division occupying the last three days of the championships from 23-25 June.

The Spaniards are traditionally very strong in the men’s middle and long distances and this year will be no exception. European indoor champion Adrian Ben has been named in the 800m while European 5000m silver medallist Mohamed Katir steps down to contest the 1500m, the event in which he is the reigning world bronze medallist.

This leaves room for Burundi-born Thierry Ndikumwenayo to make his debut for Spain in the 5000m in Silesia. The 26-year-old has lifetime bests of 7:25.93 for 3000m and 12:59.03 for 5000m.

The team also features Enrique Llopis who continues his comeback from a dramatic and serious fall in the 60m hurdles at the European Athletics Indoor Championships final in Istanbul. Seemingly fully recovered, Llopis began his season with victory in Huelva last Tuesday in 13.39 - just 0.09 shy of his lifetime best.

Another returning member of the Spanish team is Olympic triple jump bronze medallist Ana Peleteiro who gave birth to her first child in December. This will be Peleteiro’s first competition since the 2022 World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.

The full Spanish team can be found here.

All three divisions of the European Athletics Team Championships from 20-25 June will be streamed live through the European Athletics channel.
