Over 300 athletes representing 39 Member Federations are in the entries for next weekend’s European Throwing Cup in Nicosia on 15-16 March. It will be the first of three years at Cypriot venue.
There are 302 athletes entered, consisting of 156 male and 146 female across sixteen events in senior and U23 age groups.
European champion Ceh set for Cyprus
Notable entries include Slovenia’s Kristjan Čeh, gold medallist in the men’s discus at the Roma 2024 European Athletics Championships and at the 2022 World Athletics Championships in Eugene.
Among Čeh’s opposition is Sweden’s Simon Pettersson, silver medallist at the Tokyo Olympics. In the men’s hammer, Bence Halász of Hungary and Mykhaylo Kokhan of Ukraine are entered. The duo won silver and bronze at Roma 2024 and repeated the feat at the Paris Olympics.
France’s Yann Chaussinand, fifth at Roma 2024, will be also worth watching. He has extended his personal best to 81.56m in February. The men’s javelin entries include Germany’s Max Dehning, who has a 90.20m throw from last year.
In the men’s U23 classes, world U20 shot put gold and discus silver medallist Jarno van Daalen of the Netherlands is entered. The men’s U23 hammer includes 2022 world U20 champion Ioannis Korakidis of Greece and the big home hope Iosif Kesidis, 2024 world U20 champion.
Fantini and Vilagos head women's entries
In the women’s competitions. Sara Fantini of Italy, the Roma 2024 women’s hammer gold medallist and twice European women’s javelin silver medallist Adriana Vilagos are the standout names. Munich 2022 javelin gold medallist Elina Tzengko of Greece will resume her rivalry with the Serb.
