Strong javelin fields replete with domestic interest will highlight the Kladno Hazi A Kladenske Memorial in Kladno on Wednesday (16), the last World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze meeting of the season in Europe.

Barbora Spotakova recently celebrated her 39th birthday but the world record-holder is in the form which will see her contend for a third Olympic title in Tokyo next summer. Spotakova recently won on home soil in Ostrava with a season’s best of 65.19m, her best throw in three years.

Spotakova will face strong opposition from her teammate Nikola Ogrodnikova, who recently defeated Spotakova for the Czech title, as well as Poland’s Olympic fourth-placer Maria Andrejczyk who sits just ahead of Spotakova on the 2020 world list with a season’s best of 65.70m.

World U20 record-holder Elina Tzenggo, who extended her mark to 63.96m last month, competes internationally for the first time in 2020.

In the men’s javelin, former world champion Vitezslav Vesely will be looking for a notable win on home soil. The 37-year-old recently produced his best throw in more than four years with 83.03m. He faces competition from Moldova’s Andrian Mardare and Latvia Gatis Cakss, both of whom have surpassed the 84 metre-line this year, as well as Lithuania’s Edis Matusevicius who has a lifetime best of 89.17m.

In the men’s shot put, Tomas Stanek will be looking to return to competition after injury with a victory in front of his home crowd. Stanek has surpassed the 21 metre-line three times outdoors this year but hasn’t competed since late July. His main rival is likely to be Portugal’s Francisco Belo.

European hammer silver medallist Alexandra Tavernier will be looking to cap off an unbeaten season while European U20 silver medallist Hristos Frantzeskakis, 20, goes head-to-head with Hungary’s 2012 Olympic champion Krisztian Pars, 38, in the men’s hammer.

There will be a French theme to the sprinting events with double French champion Carolle Zahi and French 200m champion Amaury Golitin both registered for the 100m and 200m. Fresh from a sub-1:45 800m in Ostrava, Tony van Diepen from the Netherlands drops back down to the 400m.

European U20 champion Isabelle Boffey from Great Britain competes in the 800m and Spanish champion and multiple European medallist Kevin Lopez from Spain competes in the 1500m.

The meeting will be streamed live on CT Sport from 5.45pm local time.
