Daniel Stahl put together one of the greatest series of throws in the discus to highlight the Varberg Grand Prix, a European Athletics Area Permit Meeting, on Monday (15) evening.

All six of Stahl’s throws were far in excess of Jamaican Fedrick Dacres’ best effort of 65.92m and the Swede concluded his series with four consecutive throws in excess of the 70-metre line - a feat which has only been achieved twice before in the event.

Stahl opened with throws of 67.99m and 68.79m and with his throwing arm sufficiently warmed up, the European and world silver medallist threw 70.78m, 70.36m, 70.89m and 70.37m with his next four throws.

At this relatively early juncture of the season with the IAAF World Championships in Doha still more than two months away, Stahl has surpassed the 70-metre line in three competitions this year - tallying eight throws in those three competitions in excess of that mark.

Stahl has also amassed eight of the 10 best marks in the event in 2019 and is clearly the front runner for the world title in Doha, particularly with European and world champion Andrius Gudzius from Lithuania not back to form yet due to injury.

Three days before the Boras 2019 European Athletics U20 Championships begin, 18-year-old Tilde Johansson produced another excellent jump of 6.65m into a 1.0 m/s headwind to win the long jump. Johansson will contest both the long jump and the 100m hurdles in Boras.

There were also significant home victories for Wictor Pettersson in the shot put with 20.56m and for Swedish record-holder Fanny Roos in the women’s shot put with 18.33m.
