After a break of five weeks, the Belgian Lotto Cross Cup returns on Sunday with the 'Grand Prix de la Province de Liège' in Hannut.

Belgian’s best cross country runners will challenge an impressive international field at the European Athletics Cross Country Permit race.

Hannut, a small town in Liège, is famous for its cross-country, with its meeting of 72 years one of the oldest in Europe.

This year the very best of Belgium’s runners will gather in the muddy fields of the Hesbaye region.

Isaac Kimeli, the young talented countryman, leads the Belgian delegation in the long cross, with Abdelhadi El Hachimi and Stijn Garain.

Strong opposition is expected from the German, Italian, British, Irish and Ethiopian contenders. Balew Birhanu of Bahrain, second in the cross of Ouest France in Le Mans, will also be present.

The assault on the senior women’s course will be led by Louise Carton, Veerle Dejaeghere and Almensh Belete of Belgium alongside athletes from Germany, Great Britain, Ireland and Poland.

There is also Ethiopian Birthukan Adamu, the winner of the last edition in Hannut, and Tigist Gashaw, who finished first in the Ouest-France in Le Mans.
