Miltiadis Tentoglou has outlined his competitive schedule for the upcoming indoor season which will culminate at the Istanbul 2023 European Athletics Indoor Championships in 2-5 March.

After retaining his European outdoor long jump title in Munich last summer, Tentoglou will seek to become the first male athlete to win three successive European indoor titles in his discipline in championship history.

Tentoglou won the last two European indoor titles ahead of his Swedish rival and friend Thobias Montler who also had to settle for silver behind Tentoglou at both the World Athletics Indoor Championships and European Athletics Championships in 2022.

After his defeat to Tentoglou in Belgrade, Montler said sportingly: “Some day I think it's going to be possible to beat Tentoglou but always at the big championships he pulls out the best one. He is so mentally strong.”

Fittingly, Tentoglou will clash with Montler on his season’s debut in the Gothenburg Games on 2 February, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger meeting.

The 24-year-old also has appearances at the World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meetings in Torun (8 February), Lievin (15 February) and Madrid (22 February) on the itinerary as well as an appearance on home soil at the Greek Indoor Championships in Athens on 18-19 February.

Tentoglou won his two European indoor titles with leaps of 8.38m and 8.35m respectively but he extended his indoor lifetime best out to 8.55m to win gold at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade to move to equal third on the European indoor all-time list behind Sebastian Bayer (8.71m) and the late Yago Lamela (8.56m).
