European indoor shot put champion Zane Weir and world silver medallist Leonardo Fabbri are two of the star names on Italy’s team for the European Throwing Cup in Leiria on 9-10 March.
Both days of the European Throwing Cup will be streamed live through the European Athletics YouTube channel and will be accompanied by live results on the European Athletics website.
Weir will be making his third successive trip to Leiria and will be aiming to recapture his individual title from 2022 when he set a championship record of 21.99m for victory in the shot put.
But the presence of both Weir and Fabbri - who have lifetime bests of 22.44m and 22.37m respectively - means it is highly possible we could see the first ever 22 metre-plus throw in the shot put in European Throwing Cup history.
The 18-strong team also features European bronze medallist Sara Fantini in the hammer and world and Olympic finalist in the discus.
