The success and development of athletics in Europe depends on the incalculable contributions of time, effort and expertise made by individuals working at all levels of the sport. European Athletics regularly recognises those who have given the most through a system of honours, which according to its Constitution are awarded by decision of the Council.
Honorary President
Awarded to an outgoing European Athletics President. Recipients of this honour can be found here.
Honorary Council Member
Awarded to outgoing Council members who have served a minimum of three terms. Recipients of this honour can be found here.
The honours of both the Honorary President and Honorary Council Member have also been awarded posthumously.
The European Athletics Plaque of Merit is the highest tribute awarded to people who have given outstanding and prolonged service to the development of athletics or the successful delivery of European Athletics events and projects.
This honour is awarded to outgoing Council members who have served two terms and others such as European Athletics Commission members, event organisers, journalists and administrators proposed by the Council or by a Member Federation.

The European Athletics Golden Pin is awarded to persons who have given special service to the development of athletics or the successful delivery of European Athletics events and projects organised in their country.
This honour is typically given to outgoing Council members who have served one term and others such as European Athletics commission members, event organisers, journalists and administrators proposed by the Council or Member Federations.
